Republican leader reserves judgment on US congressman caught in kiss
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said on Tuesday a fellow House Republican was right to apologize after being caught on a video kissing a woman on his staff, but Cantor declined to say whether the congressman should resign.
Representative Vance McAllister of Louisiana, who is married and has five children, issued the apology on Monday after the building surveillance video was posted by the Ouachita Citizen newspaper on its website.
Cantor Pleased With Kissing Congressman Apology
"I think that his constituents deserve an apology. I'm glad he issued an apology," Cantor, the second-ranking House Republican, told reporters after he was pressed on whether McAllister should resign.McAllister, who took office last November after winning a special election partly by touting his Christian values, has not appeared on the House floor to vote since issuing the apology on Monday.
REALLY? that is it he says he is sorry and everything is good again? this coming from a man who is against Gay Marriage but yet he can screw around on his wife and kids until he gets caught he says he is sorry and everything is great again!
Support for same-sex marriage hits new high; half say Constitution guarantees right
Half of all Americans believe that gay men and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll in which a large majority also said businesses should not be able to deny serving gays for religious reasons.
Fifty percent say the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of equal
protection gives gays the right to marry, while 41 percent say it does
not.
Just
as the Nevada GOP drops its opposition to same-sex marriage, a group of
young conservatives is launching a campaign to change anti-gay language
in the national party platform.
Conventioneers at the Nevada Republican Party just did a remarkable thing. They decided Republicans should be consistent with their philosophy of more freedom and less government—so they eliminated opposition to gay marriage from their party platform. And
now there is a move to change anti-gay language in the national GOP
platform. A group called Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry,
which includes Margaret Hoover (who is married to Daily Beast editor in
chief John Avlon), Abby Huntsman, Meghan McCain,
and Tyler Deaton, announced Wednesday that they are launching a $1
million campaign to eliminate harsh language and replace it with
unifying framing, while still respecting differing views on marriage
within the party.
The goal of the campaign is to reform the national platform. To do
so, Young Conservatives are traveling to the four early primary
states—New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada, and South Carolina—this spring and
summer to talk to elected and rank-and-file Republicans.
The reform-the-platform campaign is a response to the Republican National Committee Growth and Opportunity Project report and the College Republicans report , both of which say the party has a major problem with younger voters.
The
Young Conservatives also are responding to the pockets of grassroots
pro-gay marriage GOP activism in Nevada, Indiana, California, and
Oregon. Party leaders in these states are modifying their platform
language to make it less divisive.
Gay marriage is the last frontier of civil rights in this country. But the train is at last leaving the station.
I
don’t expect Republicans to be marching in the streets anytime soon in
support of gay marriage. But they won’t ever again be marching in the
streets against it.
And it’s picking up steam fast. Recent polling reveals that 61 percent of Republicans under 30 now support gay marriage. Ten federal court judges in a row have now ruled favorably
on the issue, two of them appointed by Republican presidents. Courts of
appeals are now hearing gay marriage cases, and it won’t be long before
one is sent to the Supreme Court.
Towering Republican figures such as Ted Olson, who successfully argued the recount before the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore, and former Wyoming senator Alan Simpson, who recently starred in an ad
extolling the values of marriage for everyone, are helping to lead the
fight, sending a strong signal that it’s time the GOP shifted gears.
I don’t expect Republicans to be marching in the streets anytime soon
in support of gay marriage. But they won’t ever again be marching in
the streets against it. The wedge has lost its edge—and it’s about time.
Adam Lambert Dyes Hair Green
Is there anyone more stylish or more glam than Adam Lambert?
The singer and ‘American Idol‘ alum has changed his look. Lambert, known for his jet black, inky coif, has ditched his usual hair hue in favor of a more spring-like shade. He has gone green, copying off Katy Perry, who is also known having pitch-black strands.
Lambert has gone blond in the past and he has even showed off a silvery style, but for the most part, he rocks jet black and looks amazeballs while doing it. Black is his familiar follicle color.
He captioned the snap effectively: “Green Hair Don’t Care.”
While green hair would have been beyond appropriate for St. Patrick’s Day last month, it’s also a perfect color for the rich, lush, green shrubbery that is starting to pop up on trees given the warmer weather!
With the shaved sides and full, thick, faux hawk-like top, Lambert’s minty and glossy hair hue is fab, but then again, when doesn’t he go the fab route?
The green coif is paired with squared off, fashion-forward aviators and some five o’clock shadow. It’s a glam rock combo.
Since he is usually incredibly dark with his ‘do, he may have had to undergo several procedures to strip his hair of the black dye and get it to a light base, so that he could have the green shade he wanted. It’s super duper fresh and let’s hope that his salon and colorists used plenty of deep conditioner to prevent breakage, since this sort of transformation is totally damaging to strands.
