Michael Johns, ‘American Idol’ Finalist, Dies at 35

Michael Johns, 'American Idol' Finalist, Dies

Michael Johns, who sang on season seven of “American Idol,” died Friday at 35.
Though an official cause of death was not released, several news outlets said he died of a blood clot after injuring his ankle.
Johns was voted off the show shortly after performing Aerosmith’s “Dream On” in 2008, surprising viewers who considered him a frontrunner.
In 2009, he released an album, “Hold Back My Heart,” and tweeted in July that he was working on a new song called “Reckless.”
Born in Australia, Johns first came to the U.S. on a college tennis scholarship and joined the band Film in Atlanta, later playing with the Rising.
He is survived by his wife, interior designer Stacey Vuduris.
